The Language Learning Lab at SDSU is currently looking for adult and child participants for a study looking at brain processing during word learning.
Adult participants
The 2-hour study involves looking at pictures, answering questions, and completing an experimental word learning task while wearing a cap with electrodes to collect brainwave (EEG) data.
To qualify, you must:
- Be 18-35 years old
- Be monolingual English or bilingual primary English speaker
- Be right-handed
- Have normal hearing
- Not be taking any medications other than over-the-counter allergy medication or birth control
- Not have a known IQ less than 75
- Have no history of:
- Brain or serious head injury
- Neurological illness, disorders, or dysfunction (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Developmental disorders or ADD/ADHD
- Language delays or disorders
- Unstable medical conditions

Child participants
Children will come to the lab with their parents where they will perform tasks such as looking at pictures and answering questions and will complete a word learning task while wearing a cap with electrodes to allow us to collect brainwave data. The whole process takes around 3-4 hours and can be split into multiple sessions as needed. Participants will be compensated for their participation. We require the presence of a parent or legal guardian to sign a consent form.

- Be right-handed
- Be monolingual English or bilingual primary English speaker
- Have normal hearing
- Have no history of:
- Brain injury or neurological illness
- Developmental disorders or ADD/ADHD
