The Language Learning Lab at SDSU is currently looking for adult and child participants for a study looking at brain processing during word learning.
Adult participants
Word Learning Study
This 1 hour word learning study takes place over Zoom and involves completing sentences provided by a research assistant.
To qualify you must:
- Be 18-30 years old
- Have no hearing loss, language or reading disability, intellectual disability, or significant neurological history
- Have exposure to English before age 2 and use English as the primary language

Child participants
Word Learning Study
For a general word learning study, children will spend 1 hour on Zoom while a caregiver is present. The child will be given a language assessment and asked to complete sentences provided by the research assistant.
To qualify, the child must:
- Be 6-8 years old
- Have no hearing loss, language or reading disability, intellectual disability, or significant neurological history
- Have exposure to English before age 2 and use English as the primary language

Word Learning in Children with Disabilities Study
For the study on word learning in children with disabilities, children will spend 1 hour at our lab with a caregiver. The child will be given language assessments and will be asked to identify unknown words based on information from the research assistant.
To qualify, the child must:
- Be 5-8 years old
- Have exposure to English before the age of 2
- Fall into one of the following categories:
- Have hearing loss and use hearing aids or cochlear implants
- Have intellectual disability and normal hearing
- Have normal hearing and no diagnosis of intellectual disability
